Average Customer Review:

Savitch offers a solid foundation to C++ programming

I found this book extremely useful for the novice in programming. When I started reading this book, I had no prior experience with programming. By the time I finished the book, I felt I had a solid foundation in C++ and that I had acquired the necessary tools to muster a language like Java without great difficulty. I highly recommend this book if you are new to programming or if you are looking for the basics of C++.

The Most Helpful Programming Tool Around

This book is terrific. Savitch does an excellent job of making the concepts of programming easy to understand with the right amount of technical jargon but not too much so that the meaning is lost to a beginner. All the concepts are also illustrated with code that is very easy to follow and the concepts become very clear. Savitch also includes "Pitfall" sections which I find extremely usefull, with programming it is as important to learn what not to do as to learn what should be done.

Of all the C++ books around this is head and shoulders above. It is especially helpful because it will help develope good programming habits early that are vital to itermediate and advanced programming.

The BEST book I have seen on C++

I have looked at no fewer than 30 books on learning C++. This one is far and away the best I have seen. It's the only one that had the common sense to show you how the program will actually look on the computer screen. (very helpful!) And the program examples are logical and easy to follow. Other books I have ready discouraged me: Jesse Liberty's among them, because they started out with complex poorly explained programs and theory. This book is the opposite. Instead of discouraging you from programming, it will make you think you'll have it mastered in no time. Without a doubt, do not hesitate. If you want to learn programming, BUY THIS BOOK!!
