Average Customer Review:

Great Reference on CSS!

If you are interested in learning about the Cascading Style Sheet spec., this is the book to get! Unlike the CSS docs on the Web, the text of this book is well-written, easy-to-understand and filled with lots of illustrations and examples. However, the book suffers from the fact that despite the claims on the book's cover to the contrary that CSS is supported in Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, this is not entirely the case. IE and NN at present only support certain sub-sets of the CSS spec. As a result, you can't expect all of their code examples to work in either (or both) browsers. However, as Microsoft and Netscape (hopefully) come into line and adopt the spec., this problem will go away. Well written, well presented, and bound to stay on my bookshelf at work as a handy reference for some time to come.

A great book to get started, but leaves one longing for more

I powered through this book in one evening, which says three things about it: it's enlightening, easy to comprehend, and short. The chapters are organized logically, and the content of each is succinct and well supported with examples. I did notice some typos such as "margin-below" instead of the correct "margin-bottom," which will serve to confuse the novice, but overall, I felt it was an excellent purchase-one I reference often. One of the most helpful sections appears in the back, taking sites designed using traditional HTML means and converting them to more efficient style-sheet-enhanced sites. However, as I attempted to put some of these suggestions to use, I found that they didn't work as the authors purported. But I found the thought process behind the conversions enlightening.

Overall, I think this book offers the beginner a great introduction and the expert a excellent reference.

One very useful book

This was the first book I read about CSS. After reading it I immediately wanted to write my first CSS enhanced web-page. Believe it or not: it worked out just the way I had intended.
This book is well written and well presented. But what I like most about it is that you can read it once and start writing your own CSS pages right away. It is so useful that I have two copies of it: one for work and for home!
